IEC Postpones Preliminary Results

KABUL, Oct 17 – The Independent Election Commission said on Sunday it was postponing announcement of the preliminary results of the Wolesi Jirga election for at least three days “to be more accurate and precise.”

The IEC had said on Saturday it would announce the preliminary results of the Wolesi Jirga election on Sunday, according to local media. The IEC had on Oct 5 postponed announcement of the preliminary result from Oct 9 to Oct 17, or Sunday.  The preliminary results are subject to change, both from rulings by the Electoral Complaints Commission and further changes made by the IEC.

The IEC said in an email that the it “is intent to be more precise in announcement of Wolesi Jirga Elections results, therefore kindly be informed that IEC press conference for announcement of WJ preliminary results cancelled. Hopefully IEC will conduct the conference on Wednesday 20 October 2010 10:00am. The reason for delay in result is to be more accurate and precise for the announcement of WJ preliminary results.”
